Black Friday is here!

Amazon deals!

This year the 29th November marks the now infamous “Black Friday“, where so many offers are made available in the lead up to Christmas.

I have had a look around for some whisky deals – some of which were available in extended sales in the run up to Black Friday – and it wouldn’t surprise you to know that Amazon is already leading the charge when it comes to a number of deals.

Haig Club

For example, the Haig Club grain whisky is available for just £16. It’s not the type of whisky to get me going, but still a fair price.

Glenfiddich 15

The Glenfiddich 15yo is on offer for £34. Now I tried this recently, and it’s a very rich and intense flavour. Warm spice with honey and a rich, fruit taste. Some would say “Christmas Cake” and though using that expression is a sin in the whisky world, it’s a fair description.

Maker's Mark Bourbon

Acting on some feedback from earlier posts, I kept my eye out for some Bourbon whiskey offers for you too and saw that Maker’s Mark is available for £20. Now, this isn’t really my thing, but it’s a great deal for Bourbon lovers. Also, if you look at Asda you will see a version which includes a Christmas jumper made especially for the bottle for an extra £3. Not a bad deal as it could be used as a ready made Christmas decoration , or even a pre-wrapped gift.

Tamnavulin

One I have been flogging quite a bit of late is the Tamnavulin single malt. It doesn’t particularly carry an age statement, but I think it’s a great little dram. In my recent sweep of the Supermarket deals, I spotted this at around £22 in either Asda or Morrisons but iBlack Friday has brought it down to £20!

Whisky Advent Calendar

If you like the idea of a whisky Advent Calendar, then I mentioned in a recent post that there’s a really pricey version available. The Old and Rare Advent Calendar  was on sale for a whopping £999, but I can see that it has ‘plummeted” down to £350. Not too bad a deal if you’re into expensive whiskies.

Mind you, I suspect they have all sold out out by the time you’re reading this!!

Talisker 10

Turning to Talisker and its 10yo expression. This is a cracker of a whisky and is favoured by James Bond! Well, Q definitely drinks it.

The Talisker 10 is on offer for £25.49 and is well worth buying. It’s 46 percent proof and has an intense, rich taste with a trace of smokiness in there. A winter warmer!

Redbreast 12

The final deal in the Amazon sale is a belter of an Irish whiskey, a peppery number from the Jameson family – the Redbreast 12yo available for £40.90. Its older sister is the 15yo and I wouldn’t rate that so much given it’s heavy price tag, but this is a nice price for the 12yo ‘pot still’ version.

Tesco

Moving onto Tesco, there is a great priced blended whisky on offer for £12 – yes £12 for a decent 70cl bottle of whisky! It’s the Grants Triple Wood and I can recommend this one if you’re on a budget.

Also available is the ‘posh blend’, the Chivas Regal 12yo, on sale for £20. The single malt which used to go into most of this blend is Longmorn, and it has become so popular that ALL of the Longmorn stock has recently been made available solely to the single malt market. If you see one, pick it up – you won’t be disappointed.

3 of the Best Tips!

Glenfarclas – or ‘Glen Sherry’ as it’s known in some parts – is a fabulous single malt whisky and is one of my favourites. Fully matured in sherry casks. The 10yo is on offer for £30 at Majestic Wines and is well worth that price.

If you fancy something different, have a look at a pair of rolling whisky glasses (they wobble but don’t spill the whisky). Available from Von Shef at £7.99. They will make a great Christmas present!

Meanwhile at Sainsbury’s, head for the Monkey Shoulder on offer for £22. This is a superb blended malt whisky (or a vatted malt as we used to say) and is very popular with the younger audience, but I also like it so just goes to show it’s got a wide audience!

And finally.....

Whatever you find in the Black Friday event, if you do select any of the above to set you up ready for the festive season let me know!

All the very best.

Mark

Heya superb blog! Does running a blog such as this take a massive amount work?
I’ve absolutely no knowledge of coding however I had been hoping to start my own blog in the near future.
Anyway, should you have any recommendations or techniques
for new blog owners please share. I understand this is off subject nevertheless I simply had to ask.
    Kudos!

    1. Hi. Once you get the hang of it, it’s ok and you can clone previous blogs and pages then edit them – saves loads of work! M
